Barbara Louise Huber Dove
August 15, 1931 – April 25, 2019
Barbara Louise Huber was born in Jackson, Michigan to Frank and Henriette Huber. She had three older half-siblings, Frank, Henrietta, and Bette, and because both parents came from large families, she had many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Early on in life, Barbara developed an eye for beautiful design, and after graduating from Michigan State University, she had a job at Jacobsen’s Department Store creating window and other displays. She married James R. Dove in 1955 and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1959, and although she remained there through the rest of her life, Michigan remained home in her heart.
Barbara had three children: Susan (married to Paul Lempke), Gordon (married to Roger Whitehead), and Andrew (married to Kimberly Diggle). She shared her lifelong love of reading with them, reciting nightly rounds of Winnie the Pooh stories and poems, and later shared her passion for liberal politics and the Episcopal Church. After her marriage ended, Barbara attended a secretarial school but quickly rose up in the school’s organization and became a systems analyst at College Life Insurance, and then for Marion County. Even after her retirement, she continued combining her love for excellent design with her computer skills, working with son Andrew at Dove Printing Services into her 80s.
Some of her other interests were gardening, mysteries by Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie, dachshunds, and her grandchildren, Iain and Alexander Dove Lempke, and Cheyenne Star Dove. She developed many strong friendships mostly through her memberships at Christ Church Cathedral, St. Paul’s, and All Saints, but none stronger than with her sister-in-law Carolyn Dove Gillespie. Loving, funny, and very smart, Barbara remained interesting and thoughtful to the end of her days.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund or All Saints Episcopal Church, Indianapolis. A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 1 at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Barbara was a wonderful, beautiful, and loving mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. To me, she was my mother-in-law, my other mom. We had many outings together, long talks, and shared laughs. I enjoyed the many stories she told me about her upbring, college days, and becoming a wife and mother. Barbara was and always will be an inspiration to me. I will miss her dearly, however I can picture her running through fields that remind her of her beloved Jackson, Michigan. Much love to all her family and friends.
